Nation’s Least Favourite Emojis
The hugging face, winking and flexed bicep have all been named among some听of the country鈥檚 least favourite emojis, according to听new research by online smartphone retailer,听e2save.
With emoji use at an听all-time听high,听findings听reveal听what听people听really think when it comes to receiving messages featuring emojis, with more than two thirds听(68%)听saying听that using more than three emojis in a single message is overdoing it.
Tears of Joy Face Overcomes Cancellation
When it comes to the nation鈥檚 favourite emojis,听e2save revealed听the听tears听of听joy听face听(?)听came听out on top,听even though it was听labelled as being 鈥榗ancelled鈥櫶齜y听some听Gen Z鈥檚听earlier this year.
Despite this,听and听the fact听that听18鈥�24-year-olds听(Gen Z)听are now听interpreting听commonly used emojis to have different meanings听compared to others,听the听tears听of听joy听face (?)听was听still ranked highest by听this generation, with听(44%)听marking it as their favourite.
Interestingly, it was also ranked highest across all other age ranges, highlighting an alignment between generations in choosing their favourite instant messaging image.
Love is in the Air
The simple听red heart听(鉂わ笍)听and the smiling face with heart eyes听(?)听were ranked the second and third most popular emoji respectively.听Whilst people may interpret emojis in different ways, it鈥檚 safe to say that these three听all听align听with happiness, love and laughter.

The top听10听emojis听according to e2save鈥檚 research are:听

Whilst the top听10听emojis very much radiate positivity, some听commonly used classics ranked among texters least favourite emojis.听The hugging face (?)听was ranked as the least favourite by more than half (54%)听of听those surveyed,听whilst听the ok hand sign听(?)听is seen听as the second worst, with听45%听of听respondents听thinking this.听Flexed听biceps听(?)听is听also down the rankings, with 81%听of Brits having it in their bottom five.

For those on the dating scene, it鈥檚 worth noting that women don鈥檛 respond well to the OK sign emoji (?) with female Brits ranking this icon as their least favourite on average. By contrast, men feel the same about the hugging face (?), so be sure to keep this in mind when managing your dating app bios.
New Emojis
The newest emojis are expected to be released in September 2021, and with a strong list听of听contenders, such as more inclusive handshakes听and听pregnancy options, a melting emoji and one with its eyes welling up, it鈥檚 safe to say that the听emoji landscape is set to change again.
Andrew听Cartledge, mobile expert at e2save, commented:听鈥淚t seems that emojis can make or break a message for many听Brits, but with so many different interpretations听of听the images it鈥檚 difficult to know who prefers what. Our research provides some insight into what鈥檚 鈥榗ool鈥� and what鈥檚 not-so-cool when it comes to emoji use听within messages, and with more than 3,500 available to use5, it won鈥檛 be so difficult to find an alternative.
