Wellbeing company urges organisation leaders to start getting ready for the big changes in business and future of work.

How Moral Injury Is Damaging Organisations

Softer Success庐, a leading wellbeing company that provides burnout solutions to organisations globally, has announced emerging trauma-infused workplace burnout trends revealed by qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Softer Success庐 together with聽Sheffield University聽and聽Affinity Health conducted innovative new research to assess the risk of moral injury in organisations and whether it can contribute to, and even cause burnout. The study, which looked at how morally injurious events affect people in the workplace and how moral injury can contribute to burnout, revealed that moral injury and moral stress is causing a more intense type of trauma-infused burnout in people across many business sectors, which is far more challenging for people to overcome.
The findings revealed that whilst participants鈥 experiences of moral stress differed in source, severity and length, in the vast majority of cases, people felt they had no other option but to resign from their jobs because of it. This highlights that it is not just the original transgression that causes the injury but also that the lack of validation and support from their workplace leaders or peers exacerbates it.

The Great Resignation

Potentially morally injurious events are events that challenge an individual鈥檚 moral beliefs. It happens when something happens in the workplace that goes against an individual’s values and beliefs. They can be directly experienced, witnessed or learned about such as: a colleague鈥檚 transgression or betrayal; unfair redundancy selection; failure to act upon a whistleblowing complaint; and leadership humiliation, manipulation or control.
This explains a contributing reason for the great resignation. People are leaving in their droves because their values, mission and purpose are no longer aligned with that of their organisations. In fact, there is a huge misalignment. By quickly recognising these trends, Softer Success庐 empowering organisations to take the steps towards a Work Reset Revolution 鈥 by helping companies tackle moral injury head on and identify the employees who are going to burnout before they do.
