How Google Is Reshaping Wearable Tracking Technology

Google鈥檚 latest innovations are making waves in the news as they are now taking on new heights. The Pixel Watch 3, which has been said to release this September, is bringing a feature called 鈥淟oss of Pulse Detection鈥. This tool is designed to increase the survival rates for those who may suddenly lose their pulse.

In an announcement by Tajinder Gadh, Software Engineer, Android and Pramod Rudrapatna, Senior Product Manager, Health, they said, 鈥淕etting help from emergency medical services or other trained professionals quickly is critical, but that usually relies on a bystander to recognise the situation and provide or call for help. Unfortunately, many loss of pulse incidents happen when a person is alone, leaving them with effectively no chance of receiving help.鈥

How Loss of Pulse Detection Works

鈥淭he profound nature of saving someone鈥檚 life through a feature鈥攖hat is a big responsibility that we felt the urge to take on; the ambition was pretty big when we started on it,鈥 said Sandeep Waraich, product management lead for Google Wearables told WIRED. This tool uses AI, and advanced sensor tech to monitor whoever wears the watch鈥檚 pulse nonstop.

If and when the watch detects a loss of pulse, it then follows a procedure where it checks for responsiveness, then it sounds an alarm. If there is no response there as well, it then automatically contacts emergency services, using the wearer鈥檚 location to find them.

Gadh and Rudrapatna鈥檚 announcement said, 鈥淥ur goal is to make a difference and contribute towards saving lives. While loss of Pulse Detection won鈥檛 detect every loss of pulse event, we believe it can make a meaningful difference, providing help when it counts most to people and their loved ones.鈥

This feature is honestly the future when it comes to detection technology. We often speak on tech can be used to save lives, and this Loss of Pulse Detection will do exactly that.

More About The New Pixel 3 Watch

In another announcement from Google, they revealed that the new pixel Watch 3 comes in 2 sizes, which includes the latest 45mm option. The watch鈥檚 display is now twice as bright as the previous ones for a clearer face.

This device introduces three health-focused tools as well. Google鈥檚 team shared, 鈥淔itness isn鈥檛 just about going all out on your workouts 鈥 it鈥檚 also about listening to your body when you need to prioritise rest. To help you find that balance, Pixel Watch 3 introduces three new tools: an all-new Daily Readiness, Cardio Load and Target Load.鈥 These are used to analyse recovery biometrics, and exercise intensity so that wearers can fully track their workouts while making sure they get the best recovery time rates.

The Pixel Watch 3, also with Fitbit鈥檚 tech, has a Workout Builder and form analysis that gives detailed feedback on the wearer鈥檚 performance and technique during runs and jogs. So this watch is designed for overall health, and these announcements show us just this. Awaiting the Loss of Pulse Detection feature, Google continues to lead the way in wearable advancements.
