Brian Morrison, a 53-year-old resident of Glasgow, faced a terrifying ordeal when his brand new electric car seemed to take on a life of its own. As he was driving home, his MG ZS EV, a fully electric vehicle, apparently malfunctioned. With brakes that didn鈥檛 respond and a speed stuck at 30mph, Morrison found himself a prisoner in his own car.
鈥淚 realised something was wrong when I was coming up to a roundabout, and went to slow down 鈥 but it didn鈥檛 do it,鈥 Morrison recounted the harrowing experience. Despite the late hour, close to 10 pm, the risk to Morrison and others on the road was undeniable. 鈥淚t might not sound like it is very fast, but when you have no control over the speed and you鈥檙e completely stuck inside it鈥檚 terrifying,鈥 he added.
In desperation, he called the emergency services. The responders, clearly unprepared for such a situation, asked if it was a self-driving car. The situation was so dire that police vehicles had to intervene, finally bringing Morrison鈥檚 car to a halt by allowing it to crash slowly into a police van.
A Police Scotland spokesperson commented on the incident, 鈥淎round 10.35 pm on Sunday, 1 October, we received a report of a driver unable to stop his electric car on the A803 heading towards Kirkintilloch.鈥

Another incident in Buckinghamshire involved Dr. Ravpreet Kaur and her BMW iX, an 拢80,000 electric vehicle. Kaur was taking her young son to nursery when the car鈥檚 driver assist suddenly engaged, causing it to accelerate from 50mph to over 65mph, zigzagging uncontrollably.
鈥淚t felt like the car was wrestling against me,鈥 Kaur shared her ordeal. Harman Singh, Kaur鈥檚 husband and an NHS heart specialist, expressed his deep concerns, 鈥淢y wife鈥as so traumatised by the experience that she has refused to ride or take our son in our other electric car.鈥
A truck driver who witnessed the crash shared that the car was 鈥渇ar too fast鈥 for the conditions, only coming to a stop after a collision with a lamppost.
