Remote makes it easy for companies of all sizes to employ global teams. We take care of payroll, benefits, taxes, and compliance to empower more companies to work with great people all over the world.
In the past, only big enterprise companies could afford the fees associated with employing people in different countries. We have changed that dynamic. By opening our own local entities in every country where we operate, we can offer a great experience for our customers鈥 employees while keeping costs low, allowing even the smallest companies to work with cross-border teams.
Our global employment solutions offer the strongest protections for companies鈥 intellectual property, the best benefits packages, and the most reliable payroll. Once you find someone you want to hire, we can make it happen immediately, smoothly, and in full compliance with all the laws of the country where the person lives.

How did you come up with the idea for the company?
听
I was the VP of Product at GitLab, one of the world鈥檚 largest all-remote companies. When I was there, we helped scale the team from five people to hundreds of people living in several dozen countries.
During my time there, we regularly struggled to hire the people we wanted to hire. I remember it took us more than a year to hire a single employee in one European country. I kept thinking, why is this so hard? We struggled often with local laws, benefits, banking, local payroll, local legal assistance. Eventually, I realized I had to build the solution I needed.
My co-founder Marcelo and I created Remote in January 2019 to create more remote jobs in the world by helping companies employ their global teams. Immediately, we began hearing from companies all over the world in need of our help. Our customer base is growing quickly, and we had two funding rounds in 2020 totalling $46 million. Last year, our team grew from around 10 people to around 100, and we have added dozens more already in 2021. We are all delighted to be building the platform the future of work needs.
Ultimately, I believe everyone should be able to enjoy a good work-life balance and work for a good salary, no matter where they live. Working remotely made those things possible for me, and now I want to help others enjoy the same benefits.

What advice would you give to other aspiring entrepreneurs?
听
Talk to your customers. Work out. Sleep enough. A business is a marathon, not a sprint, so you can鈥檛 solve every problem by staying up working late every night. In the short term, make sure you have enough money to stay alive, so you don鈥檛 have to worry about eating while you鈥檙e trying to solve a big problem through your company. In the long term, build something people want, and validate that demand by the money they give you for your product.

What can we hope to see from Remote in the future?
听
Much more. We鈥檙e expanding to many new countries in 2021, and we will continue to make it easier to hire, reward, and retain people all over the world. We have many new exciting products on the horizon for employers and employees, and I鈥檓 excited to share them over the coming months.
